The real problem is that President Bush made a weak selection, which is causing all this confusion. And we won't know for sure where she stands until she is on the Court, and then it is way too late if she is a wolf in sheep's clothing. Political correctness seems to be consuming this administration, and it is not encouraging.

I really have no first-hand information about Miers.

No one does.

At least, no information that would allow us to discern any coherent judicial philosophy that she has articulated in the past, and that's precisely the problem.
