Which is more of a fool's errand, picking someone in the mold of the predecessor which will get confirmed, or picking someone who doesn't have a chinaman's chance in hades of getting confirmed?

The former is surrender. Why not just nominate Ted Kennedy.

As to the latter, the nuclear option is still available, and the right candidate would be worth using it. Someone like Janice Rogers Brown would deter a negative vote from significant numbers of democrat senators.

The idea that with a majority we should still be afraid of a fight is the biggest problem with the Republican party.

ok and apply it to the current Senate.

Tell me how the President would look if he nominated Luttig, but then the "Magnificent Seven" (and in no way are they anywhere near Magnificent) reared their ugly heads again?

How do you think people would react to that? Let's remember McSwine and DeWhine are still there.

-Why not just nominate Ted Kennedy.-

LOL, hey maybe that would finish him off! It would sure get him out of the Senate, which has more power.... Let's put Hilary on the court too (OOPS DID I REALY SAY THAT?).
