The fact is (and I believe you are aware of this) Susan Collins and some other senators asked him to send someone they could vote for, that wouldn't be too controversial. I posted the numbers above, and I don't think they can be disputed.
Now, if the President hadn't been attacked for two weeks over hurricane Katrina, resulting in lowered poll numbers (and conservative pundits chimed right in on that, including Krauthammer, Gingrich, Ingraham, Cal Thomas, and others) maybe he could cow those RINOS. But with his approval ratings where they are right now, the RINOS are NOT going to go with someone like Janice Rogers Brown.
I do not want a defeat, with the press going on and on about how "conservatism is dead." I do not want Janice Rogers Brown subjected to virulent attacks and rejected.
I can't help it that all Republicans senators don't have stiff spines. I wish that some of these RINOS were more afraid of the President. Part of that is his fault; part is the fault of the media, including a whole lot of shoot-from-the-hip conservative pundits.
We've debated before and it's pointless. But go for it. If you can convince people to your viewpoint by the force of your argument, power to you. I am not one of them.
The flaw in your strategy is that the GOP needs the base to win. So what if Bush's numbers go down ... he can't run for a 3rd term. You don't get people to fight for you by selling them out to the enemy. You get them to fight by energizing them. This is pouring cold water on a fire.
we could not have gotten a vote for Jones or Batchelder (sp?).
Seems that the far right and the far left have joined once again.
They think they represent the majority of their party, but are sadly mistaken.
The majority of Americans reject the idea of a bitter vicious fight over the Court nominee.
They have fears about the war, their sons and daughters fighting in that war, and the economy, and of course, their heating bills this winter.
Attacking the President on this matter is futile on one level, but it does give aid and comfort to our enemies.
Getting media attention is clearly the objective and maybe selling a few extra books too.
Pretty sad, isn't it. But then we have seen this type of feeding frenzy before from the left.
