I think if Bush got a third pick, he would put Gonzales in. Heheheh. The Miers choice does have that side effect too - it makes you at least, and no doubt others, think "cronyism!"
But had President Bush nominated Luttig, or Owen, etc., you wouldn't even entertain the thought that Gonzales is a serious contender.

By Thomas Lifson

This sums up my thoughts on the Miers nomination pretty well.

Of course Mark KNOWS his subject... I respect both his opinion and that he is so intellectually honest. Unlike Mark though, I am NOT ready to be very upset. And I'll thank you not to qualify my opinion; we all have opinions and that is fine.

And I'll thank you not to qualify my opinion; we all have opinions and that is fine. I was not qualifying your opinion. I was simply trying to get the point across that his is highly informed and not at all reactionary. His concern is very real.

...and I just disagree with him. I am allowed to do that even though I don't cerebrate on the same vibratory level.

Thank you so much stating the case for the President so well.
Seems that the far right and the far left have joined once again.
They think they represent the majority of their party, but are sadly mistaken.
The majority of Americans reject the idea of a bitter vicious fight over the Court nominee.
They have fears about the war, their sons and daughters fighting in that war, and the economy, and of course, their heating bills this winter.
Attacking the President on this matter is futile on one level, but it does give aid and comfort to our enemies.
Getting media attention is clearly the objective and maybe selling a few extra books too.
Pretty sad, isn't it. But then we have seen this type of feeding frenzy before from the left.

Much as there are those who revel in every death of our troops, there are those here who will revel in the loss of congress or the senate in 2006 so they can prove their point.
Unpatriotic, selfish, and a few other things unprintable.
Personal attacks on those who disagree with Levin is par for the course.
You only have to take a look at the first post on any Levin thread and what do you see.
Insults!

It would be too much to expect people to learn more about this nominee before they attack her, attack the president, and attack those who understand REPRESENTATIVE government.
We elect, they decide!!!

You do know that Will wanted to have the US constitution changed so Gennifer Granholm could run for President.
After all, she's just soo pretty! And nominally pro-life.

LOLOLOL.....are you suggesting Levin's opinion is not reactionary Yes, I am. He knows the Supreme Court and he knows hundreds of people better suited to sit on it than Harriet Miers which is exactly what he said.
