The DeLay Case: Lawyers Intend to Subpoena Makers of The Big Buy
NRO ^ | October 4, 2005 | Byron York

Lawyers representing a co-defendant of indicted House Majority Leader Tom DeLay have sent a letter to the makers of a new film about the DeLay investigation, saying they will seek a subpoena that would order the filmmakers to turn over a copy of the film and all unused footage from the project.

The Big Buy chronicles Travis County, Texas prosecutor Ronnie Earle as he pursued the investigation that led to DeLay's indictment on conspiracy charges last week and on money-laundering charges yesterday. Filmmakers Mark Birnbaum and Jim Schermbeck describe the film as "a Texas noir political detective story" about the Earle/DeLay investigation.

Righto, one can be assure there is some very cute and embarrassing stuff in the unused footage that was cut out. Film makers are about to learn their 15 minutes of fame, just might lead to a lifetime of shame.

I know nothing about law, so maybe a dumb question:

What are the chances the new GJ did not realize they were issuing a 2nd indictment?

IOW, what if this was presented as "housecleaning" from previous Grand Jury (ie "just a formality to correct the record")

Would that change things? Sitting here in GA, I have no clue what goes on in Travis County, just wonder if worth looking into.

From what I hear, Earle was pressured by Texas Dems to attack DeLay in retaliation for his role in Gerrymandering their butts into the stone age.

You meant un-Gerrymandered, didn't you?

There's no chance the new grand jury heard enough evidence to issue an indictment. However, being handpicked Travis County residents, they were ready and willing to do little ronnie's bidding, even if they hadn't even found the courthouse restroom yet.

>>Earle knows he has blown it. <<

Someone from DeLay's side should be subpoenaing all of Earle's phone records for the past months and see who in the Demonrat party he has been talking to.

"Hey ronnie, there coming to take you away."

I agree. I think it's much more likely Earle with take a dive out of all this than DeLay.

""You arrogant b*stard - now you've killed us all!""

Earle's guys are at home tonight nibbling on their finger nails. Was it worth it guys for your 15 minutes of fame?

Interesting angle. For a GJ that was still going through its first day of orientation, to believe they could make any judgment about such a complex case is not plausible unless, as you say, it was sold as fixing a "technicality." I think we will know soon.

If you haven't already, check out the thread about Mark Levin's group issuing a FOIA request for such records. It's posted else on FR.

"Now everyone will get to see how it's done in Texas."

My sense is that DeLay and his colleagues are not the girly-men so many RINOs in DC are, so I expect he will kick Earle's ass good. I would expect no less from our good conservative friends in Texas.

"I believe the new grand jury was empaneled at noon and he managed to bulldoze them into an indictment within 4 hours or so"

Wonder what Howard Screeeeeaaaam of the DNC and the MSM would say if a Republican DA pulled such a stunt. I think Howard would even break his old record for Screeeeaaaaaammmming.

Damn right! Ditto some in the White House who are afraid to confront the likes of Lincoln Chaffee and Chucky Hagel.

Not to mention he took the 2nd indictment to the GJ at noon yesterday BEFORE they even completed their orientation. The stink here in Austin is sky high.

I hope someone nails Earle's butt to the wall & stomps on his face! Enough of the dirty politics masquerading as law.

One of the so-called filmmakers is involved with John Podesta's organization. It is nothing but former & current Clintonistas going after DeLay. This trash is what would be found in a Hillary Clinton Administration.

You can bet that Martin Frost has his nasty little self involved in it also. Payback is *ell and I hope Tom DeLay reminds them of that very soon. I wouldn't stop until I reached the leader of the pack which probably sits in New York & DC hiding out like the coward she is.

Republicans had better learn to fight back or Hillary Clinton will walk all over them straight to the oval office. One thing you can say about her is that she doesn't mind playing dirty even if she gets someone else to do it for her.

There's a difference between a bris and emasculation. The Dems down there are singing soprano.
