I think that you've also hit upon why there has been so many overtly emotional, illogical, hysteric posts on FR, as well. It's all about THE FIGHT/STICKING IT TO THE DEMS and less about a conservative court.

On paper, Souter came off as being to the right of both Thomas and Scalia; then he got on SCOTUS.
