What does her religion have to do with her interpretation of the Constitution. What conservatives were expecting (and were promised repeatedly) were the nomination and confirmation of originalists like Scalia and Thomas. So far, we're two for two against. We've got a minimalist in Roberts and a complete unknown in Miers. Whether or not we can win the fight is not a reason to abandon the battle. If we can't explain and fight for our principles openly but instead have to resort to stealth candidates, then we might as well just merge the two parties and have done with it. Or maybe next time, actually elect a conservative.
He did alright picking Cheney didn't he? And how do you know he's abandoning the battle? He's spent ten years learning this woman's character and values. She'll be fine. If not, look me up in two years and I owe you a beer.
I liked Barry Goldwater a lot. I wasn't old enough to vote for him, but I hoped he'd win. But his platform wasn't salable enough in '64 to win the big prize. And it isn't salable enough to win the big prize now. Too much greed, selfishness, and "you have to take care of me - I'm lazy and stupid" thinking. And too many who like below-market subsidized college loans...
Good question!
