Ann Coulter is simply telling the truth. She is one of the few conservatives out there of national prominence who is still willing to fight. She doesn't care what anyone thinks - even FReepers. You go, girl. I'm on your side.

Climbing aboard this thread late....all the clever quips must have been quipped by now. But I need to add something serious anyway:

I wonder what Ms. Mier has on Bush that she could hold over his head and say, "Nominate me or I'll tell." Nothing short of blackmail seems a logical reason to award her the august post.

I prefer Michael Savage's view of Miers--a "non-entity".

After following the whole thread I can see some would likely be much happier if we lived under an appointed crown as long as it was their parties crown given the dynasty. Fact: All elected officers work for the taxpayers. That being the case they are as well accountable to the taxpayers. No one is above scrutiny. This crosses party lines and political creeds. No one in office should be given blind trust by the citizens and it is the citizens responsibility to be ever vigilant in the watch for tyranny.

Ultimately the responsibility of maintaining a Constitutional government rest squarely on the shoulder of the citizens in a free society. While POTUS may have the power to nominate persons to positions of power the nomination must be approved by the voice of the people which is in the halls of congress. He as well works for us and is not our king. His powers were limited by the founders for a very good reason. That concept as well has fallen by the wayside as congress unlawfully surrenders to the Executive Branch powers not given it in the Constitution.

For that very reason alone we as citizens and taxpayers have every right and justification for demanding standards of qualification for any office holder in any branch of government from POTUS to local aldermen in our communities. The citizens as well have the right to support or oppose any official based on their qualifications for office and conduct. This is what the elections are held for and not some insane notion that any one party deserves to rule the nation regardless of how pathetic their canidate may be. Perhaps this man said it best.

All men having power ought to be mistrusted. James Madison

Sobering words and a wise warning for the woes of todays government.

Has Ann Coulter ever worked her way to the top of a 400 lawyer firm -- Miers has.

I can only hope that Coulter's carping is part of a greater conservative strategy to cry crocodile tears.

Miers job was to vet justices for appointment by Pres. Bush to the courts. All of the justices that Coulter wants appointed were picked by Miers. That should say something about her sensibilities.

It should also remind us of the one who vetted VP candidates for Pres. Bush prior to his first presidential campaign -- Dick Cheney. The Pres said he had the best candidate under his nose and then noticed it.

Any complaints about Cheney?

This calls for us to rely on Pres. Bush, but more importantly, to rely on all those prayers over the years.

This just shows you how brilliant this pick is and how desperate the lefties have become. I think this is their strategy. The lefties know Bush's numbers are down and they are trying to siphon off his conservative base by throwing some of these thoughts on the Miers pick.

When I first heard about this yesterday, I was disappointed but as I went through the day and heard about the pick, I think it is brilliant. She has no track record as a judge so the Dems will have a dificult time putting her on the hot seat, she is an insider (so Bush knows her better than a lot of other President's picks) and Reid and company have basically endorsed her. The only thing the lefties can say is the conservatives are disappointed with the pick.

I trust this President because he has done exactly what he says. Bush has said he wants more Justices in the Scalia/Thomas mold and I believe him. I have heard she is a Christian and she is pro-life. I truly believe this pick will show how great of a man Bush is and the legacy is leaving behind. He understands the stakes and the opportunity he has to make an impact on this Supreme Court and this country.

I was thinking back in 1997 when 1 million men got together in Washington DC to pray and intercede for this country. I remember Clinton flying over with Marine One to see all the men and he couldn't believe how many evangelical Christians were there. A year later President Clinton is impeached and a presidency starts to unravel.

We elect President Bush (an answered prayer in D.C.) who is not the savior of this country but an evangelical Christian who does what he says he will do and searches after God's heart. I believe we will say Miers is one of the best justices for this country and conservative Christian will be thanking God for Bush's pick in a few years.

Ann is like the "enforcer" on a hockey team. She can fight real good, but her hockey skills are underwhelming.

Anne's admirable wit often transcends reality.
