On Fox News, Fred Barnes just said it is a shock to conservatives. Fred said he had sources in the White House tell him that Bush would not have nominated her if she was not a judicial conservative (for what that's worth).
And Fred actually HAS sources in the White House; Kristol doesn't.
Does 'judicial conservative' = a 'social conservative' ?
I'm hoping as the day goes on, we can find some kind of reason to be happy about this.
I'm not getting the gist of your post. Would that be a good shock because he actually *did* pick someone conservative, as your post's second part suggest?
