In the interest of a FACTUAL discussion......

"Harriet has also earned a reputation for her deep compassion and abiding sense of duty. In Texas, she made it her mission to support better legal representation for the poor and under-served. As president of the Dallas Bar, she called on her fellow lawyers to volunteer and staff free neighborhood clinics. She led by example. She put in long hours of pro bono work. Harriet Miers has given generously of her time and talent by serving as a leader with more than a dozen community groups and charities, including the Young Women's Christian Association, Child Care Dallas, Goodwill Industries, Exodus Ministries, Meals on Wheels and the Legal Aid Society."

Quoting PRESIDENT BUSH

I think this talk about her giving money to Al Gore in 1988 is pretty ludicrous. 17 years ago, she gave money to the most conservative (at that time) candidate in the race. Gore was running against Dukakkis and Jesse Jackson at the time. In 1988, many of the conservative democrats had still not left the party. Gore was the most conservative democrat running, pro life, his wife was crusading against filthy music lyrics etc.

Since that point, Ms. Meiers left the dems, has given money to only republicans, and attached herself to the President over a decade ago.

Are we now saying that any person, who was foolish enough to once be a democrat, oh like Phil Gramm, in Texas, can't be kosher? None of us, have a clue about her philosophy. This is a bit of a stealth nomination. If she gave money to Gore in 2000, I would be freaked. But in 1988? Come on folks.

Exodus Ministries

I saw a post earlier by MHKing which speaks to this excellent organization; I would like to investigate her involvement with it a bit more, and that alone lends send some hopefulness to this pick.
