There are many brilliant legal minds who matriculated at non-Ivy League institutions, and there is something to be said for choosing a person who hasn't spent over four years being indoctrinated by the faculty of Harvard Law School.
However, I defy anyone to claim that there aren't dozens-if not hundreds-of men and women who have comparable educational backgrounds and who are just as qualified-if not more so-to serve in this capacity.

But it's a bit odd that she is going to be the only person on the court without a pedigree of Harvard, Stanford or Yale law. (Ginsberg graduated from Columbia but after Harvard).
Like it or not, that is how the game is played. Like you, I don't particularly like it.

I agree. Otherwise, we might as well appoint and elect according to IQ tests and educational achievements. Then we'd end up with more Jimmy Carters and Bill Clintons.
