OK, I'll bite. I do not think a concern about whether the president picked Miers because of her personal loyalty to him is a leftist line. I think it reflects a concern that the Bush family has, back through the years, way before G.W., placed a higher premium on personal loyalty than it ought to have. Not that personal loyalty isn't important and useful. However, my loyalty to our cause, a cause I've been fighting for literally since elementary school, far exceeds my personal loyalty to any one president, including President Bush. Because presidents are transitory. The cause isn't.
It's the Patrician element of legacy and "get along" that is embedded in his DNA and something he ca't shake even with that ol folksy Texas accent.
