This is probably completely off-base and crazy, but what if Bush thinks another retirement is imminent(Ginsberg) before his term ends, and he is appeasing the Dems for now in order to make a clearer path for a future conservative pick???

It could happen.

I wish that's the case, but that gives this bunch way too much credit. I mean, everybody's been talking here about all the grand schemes and head fakes the president and Rove have been using to throw the media (in particular) and the Dems off base on this, like they're sitting up there playing everyone's marionnette strings and laughing about it. But again, that gives this bunch way too much credit. Bottom line, IMHO, this president does not want any more headaches from judicial nominations, he wants to get this out of the way and use his remaining political capital for the next 1,205 days on other things.
