Roy Horn (of "Siegfried & Roy")Walking, Two Years After Tiger Attack

LAS VEGAS - Roy Horn says "the magic is back." But two years after he was nearly killed by a tiger on stage, the magic is about walking short distances, not making elephants disappear.

"I meditate a lot, but I am constantly in pain," Horn, of the famed duo "Siegfried & Roy," told the Las Vegas Sun. "I'm trying to live with this."

Monday is the second anniversary of the attack; It's also his 61st birthday.

Horn can now walk unaided for short distances, and the grip of his right hand is noticeably firm. But signs of the attack remain: A thin white scar cuts across the right side of his neck, his left side is partially paralyzed and his walk is a slow shuffle.

His goal is to walk without assistance.

"It will be soon," he said. "I will surprise everybody when I do it. I like surprises."

Horn said he still finds solace in his animals and visits them at least once a week — including Montecore, the white tiger that mauled him during a performance at The Mirage.

Recalling the night he nearly died, Horn said it was not his time.

"They were not ready for me," he said. "They were not ready for me to do the show upstairs. Not yet."

Prayers for his continued recovery. It was a miracle he survived and it's taken tremendous determination and work, for him to get this far.

It is also pleasing that the tiger was not killed on account of the attack.

I saw this act in 91 and it sticks with me to this day. It was just a wonderful show.

I'm curious, if you know, are the cats still on display at the casino now? We were in Vegas for just a few hours overnight last year, and while none of the big name shows playing were of any interest, this one might have been.

I really dont know. I remember they were on display in cages when I went and they also had a dolphin habitat.

We stayed at the Mirage but it was a long time ago...14 years.

Last January,in Orlando,I saw the prepwork for a show similar to S&R show.I saw a woman who was about 5' 1" smackin' a nasty lookin' male lion on the snout to control him.

I was amazed that the lion didn't realize that he could take out that kid, with ease,in about 5 seconds.
