"It is not a slavery using physical whips and chains, but rather slavery using the individual's own mind to control him."

That's right. Slavery, as it were, is different now. In fact one curious aspect of the post NO situation is that thousands of people will now proceed to "slave" away for a paycheck cleaning up and rebuilding the city while hundreds of millions more will slave away at their regular jobs to help pay for it.

Meanwhile, the "slaves" of NO will do what?

Who's really the slave here?

African-American man from New Orleans presented to the office this week -- and I'm quite a distance away from NO. Said that the African-Americans believed Katrina stood for "Cleansing" from God because of the total corruption of NO. Rita stood for "Rinsing".

Said that the reason many African-Americans didn't want to leave NO was to protect what little they owned. They knew that the New Orleans POLICE would come in and loot what they had. They feared the corrupt police.

I believe him.

The same thing they've always done: sit on their @sses.

It's not like they couldn't get jobs. The city apparently had a need for more cops and bus drivers. Aah, but then they'd have to pass the civil service exam and with the state of LA schools, that probably wouldn't work out, would it?

I'll admit when I was listening to the people trapped at the Super dome and Convention Center I couldn't help but think these people were no better off than when they were slaves because they lacked the ability to think for themselves -- reason -- react -- plan --

Most have been cared for all their lives. The difference is slaves worked for their care; such as it was. But when given their freedom didn't know what to do or where to go, having been told what to do all their lives.

Most of these people have been paid to do nothing all their lives and have learned how the game the socialist system which, they learned, pays them a lot more money to have children and not be married.

The real scandal in this country is "we've" allowed this to continue, unchallenged for 60+ years, same as we continue to allow environmentalists to control our lives each and ever day.

Even if you are "slaving away" on your job, you took it freely, nobody made you, and you own the fruits of your labor (except for taxes-which is getting more slave like I agree) But still, when the confiscatory tax rates go up, so does the underground economy ;) and only in America
