This Brower guy in the lede seems vaguely familiar ... :-) I wanted to post this to the Bang list; is putting it in the Keywords enough? I'm not exactly a power-user here.

And the problem is?

These are the same gun banners who wildly predicted back in 1987 that Florida's adoption of shall issue CCW would result in a "Wild West" atmosphere and the streets running red with blood. The Democrats controlled the state then and in the 18 years since nothing happened that validated their scare talk. With regards to the new self-defense law, they're trotting out the same arguments they employed back in 1987. I'm betting nothing will change after today. You would think these people were capable of embarrassment; apparently not. Its amazing how common sense makes some people take leave of their mental faculties.

This law is now being pushed in Michigan. I'd get on my rep's case about supporting it, but he's already on board as a sponsor.

"Gun law critics fear state will become O.K. Corral"
After the headline, I didn't bother reading the "news" story.
Apparently the idiot writer or headline writer thinks history started when he/she/it was born and did not bother to check. The gunfight at the OK Corral took place when the town law enforcement officials attempted to arrest the Clanton faction for carrying weapons in violation of the town ordnances. An arrest! Cops against the perps! Not just a couple of gangs going at it as they do in most major cities now. In the 21st century!
For craps sake, is there anything in newspapers that can be believed?

Sure they should be scared. If I were a bad guy, who would I rather rob/carjack/mug..a Florida resident who MAY be armed, or a tourist couple straight out of the airport who I KNOW doesn't have a weapon??...

I truly hate how the media has mischaracterized the law.
What this is REALLY about is the TORT REFORM encompassed in this law.
LAWYERS ARE BEING DENIED ACCESS TO INSURANCE MONEY CLAIMS!
FOLLOW THE MONEY!
When I have discussed this with my fellow lawyers, MONEY is the root of their concern NOT lives. This law threatenes gun control groups like brady FAR more than criminals.
The CAN NOT attack people who defend themselves under this law.
To: hemogoblin
Criminals are not stupid. Likely, they'll move to states where these laws don't exist to avoid the chance of being confronted by a gun.

A-yep -- the "Joe Brower" quoted here is yours truly. This reporter called me last night and we spoke for about 20 minutes. I gave her TONS of great quotes and talking points, including a refutation of the hysterical headline which, of course, was not given ink.
Trouble is, I never said "wild kingdom"; I said "animal kingdom", and a pejorative was substituted. And as for the "Survival of the fittest" bit, well, she just made that up completely. I have to get a pocket tape recorder so I have some evidence to back me up next time when I take the SHT to civil court for defamation.
Which should serve as a lesson to all of us when we deal with the media -- even when you watch every word, nothing will stop these newscritters from hearing whatever they want to hear. Sheesh -- newsies wonder why no one believes a thing they say any more -- gee, I wonder why? And the newspeople wonder why firearms-owners are so relucant to talk to them. Boy, that's a tough one to figure out!
But who knows? Maybe some highly un-PC talk will shake up a few folks. They sure could use it.
Stay safe, everyone.
