Throw in a 68% out-of-wedlock births and you have a constant cycle of poverty in black communities.
It may me uncomfortable, un-pc yada yada but to say that drawing an association of blacks and crime (with the statistics clearly showing as such)as "indefensible" is intellectually dishonest.
The truth sometimes is uncomfortable to say but if it is the truth then the truth must be known.
Check out Margaret Sanger's "Negro Project".
Try reading the book. The authors make it clear that they are presenting what they believe the evidence supports. They make no moral claims and take no positions on abortion one way or the other. The entire subject of the book is on the unintended consequeces of certain actions, both by the government and by individuals.
well said... and i concur... i am amazed at the amount of people who only hear what they want to hear and will defend such an accusation... he did say it is a fact.... let him defend himself...
but then again, he should be able to say whatever he wants in a free society... sticks and stones may break bones... but names will never hurt...

OK fine. Let's make it legal to murder anyone who's name starts with "B". I bet the "crime" rate will then go down.
Oooohhhh! Look at me! I should write a book.
There are three disconnects here.
1. Levitt's studies state that dysfunctional teenagers (of whatever race) that began having abortions after Roe v. Wade were those mothers who would have produced children with a higher risk of becoming criminals than the general population. He did not tease out relative rates for European (white) Americans versus African-Americans versus Hispanics versus Asian-Americans. Thus his data does take into account all races getting abortions, and many of them are poorer, dysfunctional white teenagers.
2. According to Levitt, before Roe v. Wade most women who got abortions were more likely to have resources (social and financial) and their illegal abortions didn't impact crime rates, except that the abortions themselves were a crime then.
3. Bennett was referring to the discussions that have been in vogue lately due to the popularity of this book, Freakonomics, and I'm sure he's heard the eugenics arguments about killing all blacks to lower crime rates, but he was against such arguments as morally repugnant.
Well if you ask them really, really nice then maybe Levitt and Dubner'll limit their research to things that you agree with?
Two reasons. Repeal of the Corn Laws which freed people to be productive and create jobs, and secondly, the conversion of hundreds of thousands of people by evangelist preachers Jonathan Edwards, Charles Spurgeon, John Wesley and many others who turned alcoholics into hard-working upright citizens.
1. Got it.
2. Agree.
3. Never heard such discussions (which makes sense since I never heard of the book before today).
The span of time also corresponds with the practice of transporting underclass criminals to Australia, where they had a choice of becoming productive "or else"
> the original thesis that abortion would kill of blacks and lower the crime rate was originally postulated by Planned Parenthood!
That's right. Margaret Sanger founded the organization and was one of the worst bigots ever. She was a fan of eugenics and a master race (similar to Hitler in that regard). She advocated abortion as a means to keep the black birth rate in check.
Just do a google search on her.
I'm listening to Alan Colmes saying liberals aren't for abortion and want to reduce it
Ummmm .. Now libs are pro life??
I believe the liberal line is that they want to make abortion safe, legal and rare.
One must be fair and allow that blacks are more likely than whites to be held accountable for their crimes or even more likely than whites to be unfairly accused and convicted of crimes. William Kennedy Smith comes to mind. Some of these statistics are due to vagaries of law enforcement, some to inability to pay for the best defense, and some to poverty, which makes all races more prone to crime and is disproportionately present in the black community. If you look at upper and middle class blacks, I believe the stats are much better.
Or, alternatively, they had more opportunities to be productive than in overpopulated England.
creepy what google searches can produce:
