Then 9/11 came along and the LP wanted no part of going after Bin Laden in Afghanistan.

What was their reasoning on this view?

Wish I could remember the specifics, there was a press release floating around at that time. Seems like they thought it was more of a law enforcement issue and not one that required military intervention across borders.
