I don't think he does have any practical experience. I had a discussion with him a little over a year ago on the issue of open source security and injected some elements regarding public key cryptography into the discussion. Sakes alive...ol' Buzzy was as confused as an infant in a topless bar.

Hah - that sounds about right.
If he knew anything about the history of the internet and darpa, he would know why an open standard like TCP/IP was created - because prior to that, each vendor had its own communication protocol, so company A's computers couldn't communicate with company B's computers.
So instead of saying "gee, everyone has to adapt to company A's standards", they created a new, open standard to write to.
And by doing that, it created one of the greatest inventions of the 20th century.
I guess that is what he is opposed to- progress. Everything must advance according to the plans of microsoft.
