Rodney King says he doesn't want to be remembered as the person who started the Los Angeles riots in 1992.
King's videotaped beating by police shocked the nation. He uttered his famous plea, "Can we all get along?" as the riots raged after four white police officers were acquitted of his beating. The riots left 55 people dead and $1 billion in property damage in Los Angeles.
"I'd like to be remembered for the person who threw water on the whole thing. Part of the solution, you know?" he said in an interview published Sunday in The New York Times. "I want to be remembered as the person who tried to keep peace in this country, that I did my part."
King later settled his lawsuit against the city of Los Angeles for $3.8 million, but most of the money is gone.
King, 39, has since had a string of run-ins with the law, being arrested for things such as spousal abuse, hit-and-run driving and being under the influence of PCP. He walks with a limp since he lost control of his car last year, crashed into a house at 100 mph and shattered his pelvis.
Now he has written a rap song titled "Beat Down" and is working on a book about his life.
Asked if society has learned to get along since the riots, King said, "We're working through change, but it's a slow process. Race is the biggest problem we face in this country. I don't have to explain it, do I? We all know what's going on."

No, Rodney......
Stupidity is the biggest problem in the USA.
Followed very closely by being too lazy to get educated with the free schools offered from start thru high school.
You and your "brothers" & "sister" have spent all of your lifetimes refusing to be responsible, etc. etc. I could go on and on.
You are a class A PUKE, and you keep proving the police who apprehended you correct from the start of the chase of you that awful night. 6 different agencies tried to stop you.
May you rot in He!! for all the trouble you have caused.
King was high on PCP - L.A. officers ordered him several times to put his hands up and he refused.
L.A. officers tried to subdue him - however, being high on PCP is akin to having super-human strength. Even after the videotaped nightstick beatings, King STILL wouldn't get down.
The rest, as they say, has been whitewashed by the MSM and was partially responsible for putting Clinton in the WH.
"Asked if society has learned to get along since the riots"
What idiot asked this idiot this question?
Did he say white racism is the biggest problem we fake in this country?
