SACRAMENTO - Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger followed through Thursday on his promise to veto a bill to legalize gay marriage in California, saying the issue should be decided by voters or the courts.
“This bill simply adds confusion to a constitutional issue,” the Republican governor said in a veto message. “If the ban of same-sex marriage is unconstitutional this bill is not necessary. If the ban is constitutional this bill is ineffective.”

Let the aRnoids have their gleeful little dance of "victory"...
I guess they don't remember the courts track record and the many times the people's will got slapped down before.
All this while the state gets ready to float new initiatives to borrow billions and billions more to keep this sinking ship afloat and the levees from crumbling.

He has no choice in the courts getting involved, they get involved in everything in CA. The courts in CA could care less what the voters want.
Today is a good day

I give him credit for vetoing it. The people can vote next June to decide who is right. As usual, the Democrats don't have the guts to allow the people to the opportunity to revisit their last vote - they want to shove their far left agenda in the faces.

Yeah well if the California Supreme Court strikes down the ban, it will simply fuel the drive to overturn an act of judicial activism. If it sustains the ban, we still have a Far Left State Legislature to deal with. Either way, the only means of safeguarding marriage is to amend the State Constitution to forbid the courts or legislators from tampering with it.

In February 2004 when San Francisco city mayor Gavin Newsom ordered a change in the certificate application documents to allow for same-sex marriages, Governor Schwarzeggger opposed the move as being beyond the powers of the mayor, but also said that he supports gay rights and has expressed support for a law to grant civil unions to gay couples.

"Marriage Equality" - notice these people don't even have the guts to say what they're for? They can't be honest with the public about their views toward marriage even in a Democratic Blue State!

I don't share the Governor's liberal social views. Most Californians are OK with domestic partnerships and all that stuff but that's not enough for the Far Left. You appease them, they want more.

Amend the State Constitution is exactly what I want. I see it as the only way to carry out the will of the voters at this point in time.

You will, however, share the massive debt he is running up under the guise of a return to conservativism.. ;-)

Homosexual Agenda Ping.
Well, Schwarzenegger did his duty. If he hadn't vetoed it, he would likely lose the next election.
Now if only Bush vetoes the vile hate crimes bill (well, so-called Child Protection act with the hate crimes rider).
