What I thought was a Roberts blink may have actually been a double wink...and any Republican who votes for that double winker is a no-good-for-nothing baby killer.

Actually, he gave specific examples of privacy rights protected by the Constitution. None of it had anything to do with abortion.
In effect he said there is a class of rights that can be included. That is why I meant by general.
Several of the no birds are running for president, and need to raise bucks from and appease their base. They are not dumb.
Did you see the editor of realclearpolitics.com on BO'R? He basically said the same thing. BO'R called them "fundraising votes", a vote targeted at the fringe left (mainstream Democrat base).
It'll be interesting to see who the next nominee is, and if that next nominee is as Conservative as Chief Justice Roberts, I won't be surprised if Democrats like Leahy vote nay.
I hope the next nominee is a female minority.
They are dumb, they could have afforded to vote Yea on Roberts and still left the option to vote Nay on the next nominee. It's still a long way to election night 2006 and 2008.
Abortion is the biggest Democrat litmus test. Roberts failed that test in the eyes of Schumer, which is why Schumer voted Nay. Schumer told O'Reilly that he was disturbed by Roberts' view on interstate commerce. Don't be fooled by that, it's a diversion.
Think of who would be in there if Kerry had been elected.

Well, I certainly hope you are right. It has always been my impression that abortion is *the* litmus test for *every* Democrat. Even if their constituencies are more conservative, the money is not. Thus the willingness of more than a handful to vote for him has niggled at me.
Don't get me wrong, I have been tremendously impressed with Roberts, and I don't think Bush could have chosen someone with more combined qualities of conservative judicial thought and ability to make it through the confirmation process.
I also hope that part of the Dem strategy in voting for him was in preparation for a scorched earth approach to the next nominee, should he/she be someone who would tilt the court towards strict constructionism...
Actually you're incorrect. The last time Newdow showed up with his disheveled hair wearing his disheveled $3 suit in the halls of the USSC, the USSC laughed, and you could imagine they told him to "get the hell out".
If I was an atheist, and I'm not, I'd be embarrassed.
The dynamics in Washington, particularly in the USSC changed on Thursday with the swearing-in of Judge Roberts as the new Chief Justice of the United States.
Remember all of the whinings from the Gloomers and Doomers a few months ago.
Again, they have been proven to be worthless in today's world.
