'A WILD CARD INDICTMENT'
Real Clear Politics ^ | 29 September 2005 | Tom Bevan

Posted on 09/29/2005 10:59:58 AM PDT by Lando Lincoln

Don't waste your time sifting through all the garbage being churned out by the MSM on Tom DeLay indictment yesterday. I've already spent more than an hour doing it and I can give you the short version of the mind-numbing platitudes, clichés and generalities repeated in every piece of "news analysis": Republicans in trouble, vulnerable Bush loses key ally, perception of scandal hurts GOP, Democrats blast "culture of corruption," excitedly eye opportunities in 2006.

I excerpted this because Bevan quotes an article from the Houston Chronicle nearly in its entirety. Wouldn't want to get Jim in trouble.

The DNC phone banks are in full throttle this morning before Tom Delay even has had time to read the bogus inditement. The DNC Kool Aid drinkers are calling all over the country to tell Republicans to call their represenatives who Tom Delay gave money to to give it back.....talk about overplaying their hand!! This will BACKFIRE BIGTIME>>>>

The gist is that Earle better have some witness who flipped on Delay or he's in big trouble. I disagree, the Dems know that no one will hold them accountable. They are never held accountable and tehy are hopelessly out of touch. I doubt they have thought that far ahead. By the way, how's that Karl Rove scandal going for them?

A little insight into the Texas Grand Jury system (from someone who once served in San Antonio):

Please all remember that the grand jury system, here in Texas (and probably everywhere), is that the system is a one sided system. Only the DA presents the evidence they have and what charge they wish to "bill" or "no bill" on.

There is no defense presence in the room. The DA has a lot of power to influence the jury to get a "bill" verdict. I even witnessed a situation where it was clear the DA didn't want us to "bill" someone... so we didn't.

So having said this, I find it interesting that I heard this DA had to bring this case in front of multiple juries before he could get a charge (if this information is true... heard on Rush). It indicates to me that the "evidence" he has is weak.

Me thinks the Democrats are going to be stepping into it on this one....

Also, remember that the press should be reporting this as the "Democratic District Attorney has received an indictment...." as he is elected.... and Austin is democratic...

I wonder if the dim bulb Dems have any idea what a non story this is? No one I know has any interest in Tom Delay whatsoever. They're going to have to come up with something jucier than this. The American public is worrying about gas, not gas bags with axes to grind.

Tom DeLay is Public Enemy #1 to liberals inside the Beltway. But he is not the Speaker of the House, and I doubt there are 100 people outside Washington who even understand what the House Majority Leader is or does. Dems who think this is Newt Gingrich redux are Stuck on Stupid. And they also seem to forget that after they got Gingrich the GOP actually increased its majority in the next two elections.

And no matter what happens to DeLay, the GOP rules Texas and will for years to come. The Dems are not getting those 4 House seats back.

The funny thing is, given the ascendancy of Mr. Blunt, the Democrats may have done us a favor.

Wrong... They knocked him off his perch as leader of the congressional GOP. That is big.

I believe the Dims have already accomplished their intended objective by this indictment. The indictment is enough for the Dims and the MSM to find DeLay - but really President Bush - guilty of all sins since the beginning of time. Republicans, on the other hand, will fold their panties and DO NOTHING about this.

I sense a talking point montage in the future.

I bet every MSM reporter will be using the same phrase.

Who wants to bet Delay makes a speedy trial demand.

It's been a weekly WOLF WOLF for 5 years.

The only one I can tell who gives a chit about this latest attack on the Reps is the MSM and Dems.

So what.

Is it gonna win dem elections in 06/08.

Me I doubt it.

According to Rush today .. DeLay only gave money to TEXAS LEGISLATORS ..??

So once again .. we have the looney left accusing DeLay of giving money to people in other states .. THAT JUST DID NOT HAPPEN .. IT'S ALL A LIE.

So .. what else is new with these people ..??

Wouldn't it be interesting if Ronnie Earle were tied in with the CBS forged TANG memos.

I hope the voting public sees through this latest "bash Bush" effort by the Dims and the MSM. I believe more are aware of what is going on today than yesterday. But, public perception cannot be left unattended by Republicans.

Nope it doesn't. But I think that is why Delay went on the attack today and after reading the WEAK charge against him I feel it'll never make it to trial and then who will look stupid again?

Dems!

Also I think Bush needs to pick a hard core conservative for the next SCOTUS seat and let the fight ensue and hopefully the Senate Reps will have to guts to win it. They got the numbers already.

Since the threat of the fillibuster and the group of 7 stepping in not one Rep org has gotten another penny out of me. That's how I'm making my voice heard to the Rep powers that be. And that BS about the compromise was a win for us, in the Press is sure as hell doesn't look that way and as you say perception...

"Democrats . . excitedly eye opportunities in 2006"---

the Dems have been excitedly eying their next opportunity -- and summarily blowing it -- since 2000.

Who wants to bet Delay makes a speedy trial demand.

Agree, and I heard DeLay's lawyer already say he wants it to go to trial before the end of the year --- which in todays "legal system" is the speed of light.

I also make this prediction. That it never gets to trial, just like Hutchinson's never made it to trial. The leftist DA will end up dropping charges. But I'll even go further, Unlike with Hutchinson, it won't end there. Tom Delay is a street fighter. He will come back swinging at this DA. He will demand discovery on the Grand Jury transcript. He will demand phone logs of any calls to & from the DA's office and DC. He will have PIs and accountants going up the DA's hindquarters, and Delay has enough friends in the Texas statehouse to get the State AG looking into Earle's office.

This goofy DA may have just ended his run at political theater by picking on the wrong hombre.

Tom Delay will not just let this thing drop. The DA is the guy who just may have to worry about spending time in the iron bar hotel. Malicious prosecution and prosecutor misconduct are serious felonies. And that is not even the end of it. On the civil side, any ties to the DNC or Texas political operatives, plus the deep pockets of the Travis County liability insurance company could make Tom Delay a very wealth man.

At any rate, I have my popcorn ready. This should be fun to watch.
