The case for Mitt---
He brings the Northeast and Rust Belt into the fold.
He ACTIVELY opposed gay marriage in Mass while supporting civil unions. Strong family man. Pro life--he said he would not look to change Mass law (which constitutionally protects abortion). Salvaged the Utah Olympics. Became Governor in a crazy liberal state. Supports enhanced scrutiny of Islamic schools in the US.
The case against--He is a Mormon. Freepers don't like him.
Those two statements amount to the same thing. His faith is only a liability in the opinion of those on FR who declare that it is.
Do you really think the reason freepers don't like him is that he is a Mormon?
The pro-life, pro-marriage, pro-gun Rust Belt will flee from a social liberal like Mitt. His views are toxic.

You said it yourself, Mitt Romney supported gay civil unions before he opposed them. He's a non-starter.
This Freeper likes him. Many other too. He surely straightened out the Olympics debacle in UT.
