Hi, MEG!
So glad you were away from the fury of Rita, and have are having a bit of a respite in your own house.
It is mindboggling to realize how many thousands of persons are suffering as a result of not only these two storms, but all the ones that hit the Gulf and Atlantic coasts/states in the past several years.

In whole sections of Florida, for example, there are many persons still without habitable homes, waiting for insurance/government money, and/or enough construction workers to perform the repairs/rebuilding.

I doubt they see Mayor Nagin's New Orleans as "more special" than the rest of the country, and "due" total renovation.
Are we expected to replace his slum sections with houses worth $100,000?

What a pathetic mess has been created there by the Old Guard there, guarding their treaure chests, and he and Governor Blanco "demanding" help from the rest of the nation...
All gall is not in Gaul, methinks.

One of my favorite neighbors escaped to their farm..she has family and some of their friends from the hard hit area staying in her home..She came by to see if I needed a ride anywhere ..The Orkin man asked if he could bring me anything when he comes Saturday as he knew I was without a car..I am fine..well supplied but I appreciated it.

I am catching up on repairs and odd jobs..A whole bottle of green soapy concentrate cleaning liquid spilled on a utility shelf in the laundry room and ran down the wall..Gooey and messy cleanup!I have two more days of repair persons coming..I just thought of the gutters needing cleaning!

My once starving stray kitty is keeping me company.

There are evacuees moved here for Rita that were Katrina victims, too..
Lonestar is the only one I "know" that is out of her home and has damage...I think of her a lot..Home is so important..I am lucky to feel at home here and at my daughter's house.

It's been really hard on a lot of families and I appreciate the volunteers who work hard to give shelter to those who have no where to go..

I am disturbed by the shopping list presented to Congress..Public buildings and schools, infrastructure are one thing. I think it is law that we the people do that..but they go too far..Some of the people are pictured spending Fema money at the jewelry store and for alcohol..That angers me..
LA seemed to treat their bad boy politicians like it was just nothing and kind of fun lore..I am not laughing...
