The cases have always scratched easily regardless of iPod model.

My 40Gb Creative Zen Touch, by the way, has over 7,300 tracks loaded onto it so far, sounds absolutely fantastic, gets over 20 hours on a charge and cost me about the same as an easily-broken Nano with 1/10th the capacity. Funny how that works, huh?
