I here this all the time. I am not sure what that means what should be rebuilt. If you wnat oil and gas if you want seafood, if you want ports you have to build on the coast.

How about moving where you won't lose everything?
Nobody bailed me out when my well went dry, when my furnace stopped working, when my basement flooded four times.
I had to drain the bank account then cash out some retirement investments.
I'm against rebuilding over and over (like I am with those who live on MS river).
Just so you don't have to live in a state with adverse weather conditions.
Pooh.

Ole Miss is not the problem. The crooks running Louisiana ARE. When 60 BILLION, $$$$$ diappears down the black hole of LA politics, pwople get a little leary of giving them one red cent. I mean one Blue cent.

NOLA is not in Mississippi, the state, but is located ON the Mississippi.

River, that is.

I think that is part of the frustration being vented here. The complaints about how much "this" is going to cost are getting twisted up with the corruption and stupidity in New Orleans in particular and Louisiana in general.

Mississippi is getting tarred with the NOLA brush of resentment at the outrageous corruption and ridiculous behavior of their politicians.

Well, I'm sick of having to spell mississippi. If they changed the name of the state to something easier to spell, like "fred", then I might support rebuilding it.

I'm on board.

What about it, Pointblank?

You get the money if you become the Great State of Fred.

Ok I think when we aall know in the end there will be Federal oversight and in fact the citizens of Louisiana are demanding it. By the way alot of Repubs down here too almost the entire congressional delegation is Republican. Its so easy to sterotype people and also a bit dangerous. As to the wish list I am suspcious is it a tactical move so people can say they cut the fact I don't know. I haven't even seen the whole bill yet. If it provides the essentials for levees and Coastal erosion as well as other relief I will be satisfyed . Its the long run here we are talking about.

It doesn't matter if someone CALLS temselves Republican. It's what is done to stop the corruption and the old boy network. When they get the CONVICTIONS of the indicted one (fed money to buy flood prone housing missing). Then we can talk.

It isn't that no one wants to rebuild. We question turning over billions to corrupt Louisiana politicians and the wisdom of rebuiding a city in a sinkhole.

You do notice he's talking about Mississippi, not Louisiana, don't you?

Mississippi, the river, runs through New Orleans. Mississippi, the state, is next to Louisiana, not part of it.

Witness the fact the Mississippi has a Governor named Haley Barbour, a Republican, who got things done without having a hissy fit.

I say take the money the Louisiana has asked for and give it to Mississippi.

Alternatively continue the Lousiana/Mississippi boarder down the rest of the Mississippi. The strange appendix like extension of Louisiana into what should be the Mississippi Gulf Coast has always bothered me. Then provide the rebuilding funds for NOLA to Haley. He'll rebuild NOLA as a great Mississippi city, and he'll probably not rebuild the slums the way the corrupt Louisiana Democrats would.

You can re-build that port of New Orleans without rebuidling the 500K person slum to go with it.

I'm a bit out of the loop and I'm new to this site. But, I have been a bit annoyed by the lack of Media attention that Mississippi has received. I recall when CNN was busy with its nauseating self congratulations on it's coverage of the "bullet" that grazed New Orleans... that we'd been hearing nothing on any Cable News about the parts of LA south of NO or anything regarding the MS Gulf Coast...and it worried me. Then again, I have family in Hattiesburg & who lived in Ocean Springs when Camille swept through (house destroyed)...and I tracked the hurricane...

Judging from the comments on this thread, people are not aware of just how devastated MS was by Katrina... I think New Orleans & the hyped-up media coverage to embarrass the President, drained resources away from the huge & equally devastating emergency that was happening quietly in MS. Perhaps, it would be helpful for those unaware, to just imagine the damage of a 1,000 tornadoes tearing through the state... Not to mention a tsunami sweeping miles inland along the coast...

I have no concerns about how Federal money would be spent in Mississippi...it's quiet evident that residents who have rather self-resilently been digging themselves & their neighbors out from under tons of rubble with very little media attention (would you believe that Shep on Fox was covering NO yesterday & pointed at a row of intact but previously flooded houses & said "Katrina's eye passed over these homes"??? I almost choked)...anyway, those residents will rebuild...come Federal help or not...

I'm not sure people grasp the magnitude of Katrina...and now Rita's impact on the portions of Southern LA (I hate to include Southern LA in the same breath as New Orleans...) not already crippled... Comparing Florida to Mississippi would be like comparing Oranges to Peaches (OK perhaps figs & Pecans...)...

Maybe posts like yours will help... In the meantime, I'll be hoping that your patience endures the learning curve... And you should take great pride in yourself & your state!

Get off your high horse. The funds are to be allocated for the Gulf area which would include Louisiana which is the state with all the corruption and the city below sea level which is the target of complaints about sending funds to be wasted and spent uselessly. Get it?
