Of course it is discrimination! But it doesn't classify any single person as a pedophile as you claim it does. It does recognize that children are generally safer within and with other family units than mixed with single men.

Those of us that don't intend to harm children or interfere with family outings shouldn't be insulted. I can understand the root of the concerns and respect those concerns.

Most of you don't.

But it is too bad that you infer what isn't implied.

You seem to be saying that the solution to a lack of punishment for proven pedophiles is to treat every unaccompanied adult as a potential pedophile.

If that's your position then we have no common ground. I suspect there are very few expansions of goverment control "for the children" which you would not endorse.

You suspect incorrectly, but that's ok. Your mind's made up, I won't bother you with facts.

You want to pretend 2005 is 1968.. more power to you.. the rest of us live in reality. I've actually caught these sickos lurking around parks, cub scout events and other places... like the pariah they are.

Last year there was a multi day event in a park where the same sick showed up hanging around on the outskirts day one, hung out and just checked things out... the next day returned and came closer.. the next day came back wearing the same style uniform that the counsellors were wearing and tried to get even closer.... When the cops were alerted, they already knew the guy... he had a history and rap sheet. This isn't an isolated incident... go talk to folks who work with youth, and you find out just how pervasive these little sickos are. This is not 1968.

A playground within a park clearly marked, no adults without children is no infringement of your rights.

Punishment does not deter pedophiles... they can spend 50 years in jail, be released as a feeble old man, and still prey on kids... acquaintance of mine had to pick up an 82 year old just a few months ago that fit that exact criteria.

You sit in on an interview with an abuse victim, and you keep you will lose your ignorance of how pervasive these scum are. 4,000 abductions a year does not remotely cover those who are assaulted... the vast majority of victims are not abducted or murdered, and don't rely on force to get what they want.

The only protection from the sickos is to never let them out.. but of course, we can't have that now can we... heaven forbid.

Sounds like anti-single(-men in particular) discrimination to me. To classify me as a potential pedophile just by virtue of my marital status, lack of children and gender is the same type of group identity garbage that would be unacceptable if applied to a group by race or ethnicity.

==========================================

Holy Moly! This is what you read? If you (or this woman) were in the playground (not the park) with your nephew or with your neighbor and his kid or with your girlfriend and her kid then no problem. Try not to be so sensitive.

Hey, Ish - How do you feel about anyone wandering through any public grade school or kindergarden anytime he/she wants to? What would be the difference?

This is obviously a Venus-Mars style conversation since, IMO, your responses generally are mismatched with what I'm saying. Your paraphrasing of my words twists the meaning far beyond the intent.

Never did I mention or imply social isolation of children.

Never have I mentioned removing human contact from anyone.

Maybe the miscommunication is because I've seen this culture in action and you haven't. Having a family seating section of restaurant, family only parks, and family shopping times at the malls didn't hurt anyone there and gave the family an added element of respect and social status. They demonstrated that family was important to them without harming anyone else.

Conservatives are generally thought of as being family friendly, but it is interesting to read the arguments (and names I've been called by some) for talking about a very family friendly conservative social custom that I think has some merit.

Posters on this thread have, by and large, preferred self interests over family interests.

Verrrrry interesting.

But god forbid that single adults could understand the family concerns and put their own wishes aside for a moment. As most on this thread have proven, self fulfillment overrules respect and concern for family safety.

Having kids does not put you in 1st place among society. Your position appears to be those with kids make the rules and if others don't like it they are somehow being selfish.

Tell ya what, us childless folks will stop *gasp* going into parks & playgrounds as long as those with kids under age 5 keep their kids off of airplane flights & out of movie theaters.

Deal?

How would you feel if you had a couple or three young strange (as in unknown to you) males (17-30) constantly about 30-50 feet from you and your family while you are on an outing?

They aren't doing anything criminal, but what does you gut say?

You prove my point about selfishness. We certainly wouldn't want to have you yield anything to families. Nope, doggonit, you should be right in the middle of those play grounds and mingling with little kids all you want. As long as it makes you happy, that is. Your happiness is what counts, right?

And trust me, I appreciate adult only activities probably more than you do!

How is a public school, one funded completely by tax dollars, less public owned and accessible without restriction than a public playground. What is your constitutional argument for restricting access to the school but not the playground?

And there's a darn good reason your gut says what it says.

But based on what we read on this thread we're a long way from people setting aside their feelings to give some respect and shelter to families.

It appears the "yielding" you advocate is an entirely one-way street.
