Although I'm aware that the current anti-drug policies by major sports is laughable, I'm bemused at Congress trying to solve the problem by passing another federal law.

What about a drug screening for Congressmen? Lead by example, Congressmen.

It's a serious issue, but wouldn't the proper course of action be to send the pro athletes to jail and prosecute them to the fullest extent of the law? Why should Congress get involved in it at all? It's illegal steroid use, right?

Boxing can be fatal also. Should Congress get involved in forcing professional boxers to use the same safety equipment amateur boxers use?

All we're saying is there are bigger problems out there. Like most things that are going horribly wrong nowadays, we don't need more laws. We just need to enforce the ones we've got.

Wow I am sure glad the budget is balanced, poverty is wiped out, we rebult new orleans

...and illegals aren't running across the border at 40 bushels a minute. I do not see what possible interest or role government has here. These are controlled substances. Controlled substances are already against the law. Enforce the laws.

Also, steroid use can be fatal. Thus, it nees to be addressed on Capitol Hill.

Eating peanuts can cause fatal allergic reactions. Maybe peanut eating should be addressed by Capitol Hill, too.

Remind me why you should be elected over someone who's actually a conservative.

Hey George;

They drug tested me with negative results when I was in the military, so I have no problem with them testing Congressman as well (....... I thought that they did it already?).

You make a point by suggesting that they send the athletes to prison for steroid use. Although the whole concept of Congress getting involved is that no one is cracking down on illegal usage.

The whole reason that Congress is getting involved in illegal steroid use is that no one is enforcing the law.

Also, there are a number of issues that they need to attend to while not turning their backs on illegal steroid use.

In your first post, you stated:
It's time to put these measures into law before more athletes destroy themselves with steroid use.

And then you say:
The whole reason that Congress is getting involved in illegal steroid use is that no one is enforcing the law.

What's the use in putting more measures into law if nobody is enforcing the laws we already have? Why have more laws that won't be enforced? Concentrate on enforcing the laws we have. Don't write more laws that won't be enforced, either.

A statement made simply for argumentative purposes.
