"...Now that the technology is available, consumers should be allowed to see instantaneously what their credit rating is and how it is determined. This bill will give consumers access to the same information lenders and credit reporting agencies use and will help families make wiser decisions that will improve their credit score," said Schumer.
Schumer pointed out that already one internet company, E-LOAN, is offering a free, web-based service that allows real estate agents, bankers, and consumers to instantly determine their credit rating. In addition to an instant credit score, consumers receive a credit score analysis that helps them identify and understand actions they can take to improve their score...

Nice of him to even the playing field by providing free credit reports to conservatives (Previous Thread)
You're not wiggling out of this one, Schumer, you weasel!
for later. I need to update Norton before I go on his site. Ick.
What the Dems are counting on is that only Republicans care about their elected representatives' credit records. To a Dem, financial problems are an asset.
....personally...I'm concerned about Schumer's credibility.
Some of Chuckie's former staff, now working for the national dem party, even believed it was appropriate to pull a credit report on Md LtGov Mike Steele (potential Republican candidate for Senate) to dig for opposition research. Beware of liberals extolling the virtues of easy access to OPC (other people's credit)

For instance, go back 10 years...
Schumer issued a 1995 report entitled "Consumer in a Box" which explored the 90% increase in breakfast cereal prices since 1983 and demanded that the Justice Department investigate breakfast cereal antitrust violations.
Now the story.
It appears that someone in Schumers office, and Chucky Schmucky himself, had taken a liking to Frosted Mini Wheats cereal. So, the Staffer would kkep a box in the office. Well, once Chucky developed a taste for the cereal, he began glomming the Staffers cereal, and after a time, the staffer pointed out to then Congresscritter Schmucky, that the cereal was fairly expensive and implored him to buy a box on the occasion.
Well, that led Chucky to the grocery store, and lo and behold, once he actually saw the price of the stuff....
So, I do think in this case, he is probably doing the right thing, for starters, companies that rate your credit should be prohibited from engaging in conflict of interest businesses, Like Equifax, which also sells some credit score improvement service...
This story is a lot like the Martin taping of the Boehner/Newt phone call--it's a screen for what really happened. When you contact a free credit report site you are asked a series of questions that only you (or a very intimate associate) could know.
These people have a much more devious operation in place.
