It might be cheaper on taxpayers if we bought all of them a house, a car, stocked their cupboards with groceries in another city, showed them the way to the welfare office, and leave New Orleans beneath sea level. The idea of giving corrupt politicians billions of dollars with no accountability doesn't sound wise to me, given their past history of corruption. The government mishandled money that the feds gave them to fix the levees before.

After seeing the destruction caused by two back to back hurricanes, I do NOT approve of rebuilding New Orleans. They are below sea level, in an area that could be leveled in the future by another hurricane. The storm surge in southwest LA went as far back as 20 miles, and would have wiped out the entire city of New Orleans had it hit them head on. We have MS, AL, FL, LA, TX and NC who have all had tremendous losses due to hurricanes, and they all need help. We can't just forget about them because of NO. FL had 4 or 5 hurricanes last year.

With insurance damage claims so high, it's going to send all of OUR premiums through the roof because they have to make money some way. Eventually, no insurance company is going to insure them. No one is more sorry about what happened than I am, and I pray for all of them, but that's the risk they take if they are going to live in hurricane prone areas. Sure, it's beautiful but, it's NOT worth the risk so I wouldn't do it. I don't feel good about having to pay for them to enjoy living close to the ocean. At what point do we say that we can't afford it so if you want to live there, you're on your own? Before anyone flames me, it won't change my mind. LOL It's NOT personal, it's just a winless situation. My niece and her family live in New Orleans and my brother lives in Mobile, close to Mobile Bay. I would tell them the same thing.

Did you see before and after pictures of barrier islands? After Katrina, there weren't any!
