Uh oh. A Dem who gets it. This is very serious. I'm on record as saying that the 2008 winner will have to be tough on immigration.
Thanks, that gives me some idea about him.
Unfortunately, he's a DemocRAT.
The game is becoming very obvious, everyone has an immigration reform bill, with that many floating around congress, there isn't much chance any will be passed. Then we will hear, "we can't come to concensis on an immigration reform bill." When the heat gets turned up on them again, they will pass some meaningless multi-thousand page, flowery named, steaming pile of manure, telling us that we insisted they do something, so they did the best they could.
I agree that massive third-world population transfers are disastrous, whether legal or illegal.
If Nelson's bill expands legal immigration limits then that's a problem.

Actually, we have a big immigration problem in Nebraska. The meat packing industry is big here. In Omaha, illegal immigrants are taking over South Omaha. My teenage son had a heck of a time getting a job because everywhere you look (normal minimum wage opportunities like Burger King) they are there. BIG problem in Nebraska.

"The Clinton administration was notorious in this regard. Take Operation Vanguard, intended as a kinder, gentler means of enforcing the ban on hiring illegal aliens. This initiative, launched in late 1998, focused on all the meat-packing plants in Nebraska (instead of raiding one and letting the others benefit from the disruption of their competitor). Rather than breaking in the doors, the INS simply subpoenaed the companies' personnel records, which they took back to the office and verified. The INS then asked to interview those employees who appeared to be unauthorized and the illegals ran off. The procedure was remarkably successful, and was meant to be repeated every two or three months until the plants were weaned from their dependence on illegal labor."
"But it was never repeated. Gov. Mike Johanns organized a task force to oppose the operation; the meat packers and the ranchers hired former Gov. Ben Nelson to lobby on their behalf; and, in Washington, Sen. Chuck Hagel made it his mission in life to pressure the Justice Department to stop. They succeeded, the operation was ended, and the senior INS official who had thought it up in the first place was forced into early retirement."
Note: Mike Johanns is now the Secretary of Agriculture
Thanks for the info...initially it seems this new legislation doesn't jive with his past actions, but then there is the line where they don't actively go to a company and seek out already hired illegals...that's pretty consistent.
Again the Republicans aka "The Stupid Party" are about to lose another home run idea.
'dame bramage' here
Hagel on the other hand I voted for and I wish there had been another republican choice. I despise him. He is a clone of McCain and I don't consider McCain much of a republican. He is still delusional about having a shot at the White House. I wish that the state party would put someone else up against him in the primary the next time he runs. If that time were now he would likely be replaced as the candidate.
What a joke.
I know we can not use the military to enforce the law as far as civilians are concerned here in the USA..civilians being defined as citizens of this country.
If it will indeed take thousands to catch Illegal Entrants, some possibly Terrorists..WHY can we not use the military to hunt them down? Its not like they will be harassing citizens or anything.
We the People have a RIGHT to a Free, Safe Country just as much as any Iraqi.
The mistake any administration makes is in ignoring the will of the people and not enforcing the constitution by ALL MEANS necessary.
When violence breaks out, and I believe it will, maybe then something will be done.
