Terri Schiavo's parents and siblings are writing a book about their struggle in the epic end-of-life case that divided the country and captured the attention of everyone from the Pope John Paul II to President Bush, their publisher said Tuesday. The yet untitled memoir by parents Bob and Mary Schindler, brother Bobby Schindler and sister Suzanne Vitadamo will be published in March to coincide with the first anniversary of the death of the brain-damaged woman, whose feeding tube was removed after her husband won a court order to do so.
"This book is the moving story of an ordinary family caught up in extraordinary circumstances, and it will set the record straight for the first time," said Jamie Raab, senior vice president and publisher at Warner Books in New York.
The Schindlers' book is likely to compete for space on the shelves with a memoir by Terri Schiavo's husband, Michael, who fought his in-laws in court for eight years to end her life, arguing she would not have wanted to be kept alive in what doctors called a persistent vegetative state. Michael Schiavo said he is collaborating on the book with author Michael Hirsh. The 280-page book is titled "Terri: the Truth," and is planned for release in March by Dutton Publishing.
The Schindlers will donate profits from the book to a foundation they established when they were fighting to save Terri's life, Warner Books said. The foundation now is dedicated to protecting severely disabled people.
The press release announcing the book said Terri Schiavo's parents and siblings "fought simply as a caring family and never the ideological zealots depicted by the mainstream media.
"For the first time ever, they will share their love and sorrow, joy and pain, and some shocking revelations as they honor Terri's life, mourn her death, and finally tell the whole story, the true story, of an innocent woman who met a needlessly premature death."
The Schindler family has been through hell.
A) They have a right under the First Amendment to tell their story.
B) They deserve any funds they receive.
Knowing them, it is highly unlikely that they will personally profit, anyhow. Chances are that it will all will end up going to the fight to defeat the death cultists who are undermining the most fundamental principles of our free republic.
The Schindler family are some of the finest human beings walking the planet; and in my opinion, those who ridicule them are playing the fool, to be more kind about it than they deserve.
Weren't a lot of people on here saying that it would be Michael Schiavo getting a book deal?
I have no idea and frankly I don't care. It's irrelevant. The Schindlers are cashing in on their daughter's death, and no matter amount of Micahel-bashing, no matter how deserved, will change that.
Precisely.
Do you *really* believe that? Did I miss something?
Michael is running a little low on cash so he is busy suing more hospitals. Just in case his movie deal doesn't work out. He is such a low life.
In other words, no, Michael is not donating any to charity. I am not surpised.
Yep, he was accused, of the very thing the Schlinder's are doing now. Imagine that?
No, in other words I don't know and I don't care to find out.
Doesn't look to me as though they are looking to personally cash in from this.
Ooops, I haven't gotten my shrine up yet. Guess I better go ahead leave work, and absorb myself in building a monument to something that was none of my business. That is since I wasn't able to go hold a senseless 'vigil', threaten public officials, and disrupt an entire town it's the least I can do.....BTW, what sort of shrine do you build for that?
Oh, that's right. I forgot about the other lawsuits. Now a book deal, then a movie. Gosh, one would think he might donate some of that to charity, since it was never about the money with him. But as you can see, the Michael lovers can't wait to trash a family that had to watch their daughter starve to death.
Do you know the family?
I do. And what they are trying to do is found an organization to fight this same situation which occurs daily around the country. Maybe you are independently wealthy and could work for free, but they aren't.
Her brother Micheal is a school teacher -- and we know how much benfits teachers get. This is a financial and benefits loss for him.
Before you go around dragging someone's name through the mud, maybe you should find out some facts.
Libel can be costly you know...
Michael is writing a book, and suing other hospitals. Yes, more lawsuits. And he is donating none of it to a charity.
I may add, the organization I work for is helping them out with this foundation. You have no clue what you are talking about.
MICHAEL SCHIAVO:Hey, where's my cut? If it wasn't for me none of this wouldn't have happened...Don't bite the hand that feeds or doesn't feed you...
Oh, you've done it now. That's is a strong possibility. As your statement may very well contain facts, everything you say from this point forward must be automatically discounted...
I wonder why Michael is not donating any of his proceeds from the book, lawsuits, to charity?
