See my post #705. The NHC clearly had NO close to the crosshairs, at that point (5pm friday) there should have been little doubt.

Chairman: Would it have been handled better if you were independent of DHS.

Brown: Cleary, it would have been better if we were independent.

When this is over, some of us will be owed HUGE apologies from other posters.

But I won't hold my breath.

Anyone who says that anyone who has done anything 164 times is 'inexperienced' is, well...stuck on stupid.

Did I hear correctly? Blanco declares "State of Emergency" in Louisisna, but for not all parishes?

I'm not listening, but I think that is sort of true. Her Declarations of emergency were state-wide in effect (see 48 KBB 2005). With regard to more specific requests for Federal assistance, she had two lists of Parishes, one list in her Aug 27 letter (Saturday), and a different, more comprehensive list in her request of Aug. 28.

look for a movement to allow absentee voting for former residents to cast ballots from wherever then now reside.

And also get to vote where they live now.

Let FedEx take over INS also. If they can track 3-5 million damn packages a day w/o losing any, I'm sure they can track all these freakin immigrants.

The only problem will be barcoding the immigrants and fitting them into those little envelopes.

OK. Now you got my attention. Does anyone know if these nonexistent police personnel were also on the voting rolls?

Oh, I didn't say it, but I think those details are irrelevant, given the independent knowledge of the storm's progress.

Governor Blanco told WAFB that "The regretful thing is if we have to come up with 30 million dollars, it takes away from children, it takes away from the sick... you know, very, very important initiatives."

Did you see the picture of Brown that MSNBC chose? Geez, made him look like some paranoid weasel. No bias there.

Rep. Thornberry (R) Texas:

Generally, how many people do you expect to actually evacuate when an evacuate order is issued? We heard, for example, that 80% is pretty good. So what's your expectation?

Brown: Prior to Katrina I would have hoped for 80%. Post Katrina, I expect better than 80%.

Thornberry: So did 80% actually evacuate NO?

Brown: I don't know.

Thornberry: So you knew they wouldn't all evacuate and you already testified you knew the SuperDome was to be the evacuation center. Col. Ebert, is the emergency coordinate, chose the Dome as the shelter. It was not a decision you made.

Brown: No, we wouldn't make that decision.

Thornberry: You also testified you put some MRE's, water and people there before the hurricane hit. What were the people supposed to do?

Brown: Mini Fema team to push through the command structure to decide the needs of the super dome. A federal coordinating officer who is smart and knows the business well was there and another long time FEMA employee were there. THey were to liaison between mayor's office, FEMA and someone else i Couldn't get.

We also had a medical team there. There were approximately a dozen FEMA people at the Super Dome. We expected about 20,000 at the Dome.

You think FEMA has disintegrator beams or anti-grav to immediately clear a path to where the stuff is needed?

FEMA is working on super-secret stupid-seeking missiles to deliver supplies to those who don't prepare adequately for hurricanes.

CSPAN has just reversed a programming decision, because when they initially cut out of the hearing, they stating that they were "fulfilling their commitment to carry the House floor proceedings, live."

Now unless the House went into quick recess, they have reconsidered.
