It's fortunate that way.

Actually the only pure source of Carbon monoxide that I know of is naturally occuring in ones body.

If you happen to be stripping furniture with a product containing methylene chloride the fumes that you breathe are converted in the body into carbon monoxide.

Dangerous stuff to use without good ventilation.

I don't smell gas under our stove but I do get a whiff of it out by our gas meter.

I did too at one place we lived in OH. I rang up the gas company and they sent a man out to check it.

He said "It's normal to smell some gas fumes at the meter. It's normal."

I'm wondering if I have a leak there also.

Indoors, it's a concern.

A gas company man says & does this: One way to test if gas is leaking, make up some soap suds, using a small paint brush put lots of suds around the connection.

If it appears to start bubbling, you have a gas leak. Your gas company man should check it for you anyway w/out charge.

Thanks! We will check it out tonight. My husband says he can't smell it. That is why I figure I have a sensitive nose. However, I also spend a lot more time in the area than he does. We will do the bubble thing tonight.

And just to "be sure," call the gas company.
They'll be glad to send a man out. They'd
rather everyone be "safe than sorry."

I could smell gas coming from our outside
meter (this was back in the 1970's), and
I rang up the gas company. They sent a
man straight out. He did the soap bubble
test. He said it's normal for a bit of
gas to leak at the meter, especially when
the furnace or stove, etc., turns on.

[There was no charge for him to come out.]

I know. They switched out our meter a couple of years ago. Actually, it was a meter reader that pointed the smell on that out to me. They arrived promptly and had it fixed in no time. If the connection bubbles I'll give them another call. I figured the detector would be going off if the leak was very big...if there is a leak. It might just be left over fumes from when I actually use the stove.
