Where were John Goseks friends?
by Vincent R. Caravan
Shades of Bill Clinton! Who would ever believe Oswego County would have a sexual scandal to equal or surpass the escapades of our recent president, whose extra-marital sexual experiences would be aired for the whole world to know.
The recent arrest of Oswego Mayor John Gosek and his ultimate resignation on a proportionate basis received as much notoriety as Clintons indiscretions. Mr. Goseks accusers were not as forgiving, however.
The most notable difference is in the outcome. Mr. Clinton was allowed to stay in office and outlast the awkwardness of the situation, while Mr. Gosek was forced out of office.
Like Clinton, Mr. Gosek was a good politician and he was an excellent mayor for Oswego. His Achilles heel was his sexual appetite. He was handsome, again like Clinton, with the charm that easily attracted the opposite sex and a penchant for satisfying his desires.
Rather than joining the crowd in condemning Mr. Gosek, the question we should be asking is: Why wasnt he stopped before it became a police matter?
Mr. Gosek certainly was not a threat to society. He apparently revealed no confidential information that would have endangered his constituents.
It has never been reported that he engaged in non-consensual sex with adult women or that he snatched underaged girls off the street and forced them into sexual encounters.
The day he was arrested in Solvay, his objective was not to lead a couple young girls astray. If the planned rendezvous had not been interrupted, the minors would have been astray before his meeting them.
Mr. Goseks effectiveness as mayor apparently is indisputable. His personal behavior, however, cannot be condoned. Therefore, it had to change or he could not be mayor. Why, though, could it not have changed before it reached inexcusable proportions.
Mr. Gosek has admitted he has a problem and will seek therapy. One would wonder why political privilege was not practiced in steering him out a bad habit that could only lead to a woeful end.
Was Mr. Gosek without personal as well as political friends that left him unable to improve his morality and continue to serve a city well? It makes one wonder.
Um this Gosek scum was stopped by the feds as he was about to enter a hotel room for what he believed was to provide drugs to and have sex with two underage teen girls ...
nice to see he has a defender
as many problems w/ his libido that Bubba may have had ... being taped setting up a sexual liason w/ underage teens was not one of them ...
Gosek was recently arrested. He faces charges of offering money and drugs to minors for sex.
This would be a much bigger story if he was a Republican. Since he isn't, there is no mention of his political party.
Sad to report, he is a Republican :/
No kidding. Doping up minors and banging them is a "bad habit." But hey, Gosek is going to "seek therapy," so this creep wants to give him a bye... uh uh.
If Gosek thinks he's short on friends now, wait till he gets to prison. Criminals are bad people, but lots of them are fathers of daughters. Prison is a bad place for Mr Gosek (from his point of view), but running around loose in society is a much worse place for Mr Gosek (from our point of view).
I love the writer's other excuse for Gosek. "It's not like he was the first one to debauch the girls, they were debauched already.
Tip for Mr Gosek: when inprocessing, tell the screws you need to go to SHU, pronounced "shoe." They can probably keep you alive in the Special Housing Unit. Of course, it's a pretty crummy place to be, but you should have thought of that before, eh?

Yes, Clinton would have been an excellent mayor for Oswego. As Harry Callahan said, "A man's gotta know his limitations."

A mind-bending rationalization along the lines of If she had lived, Mary Jo Kopechne would be 62 years old. Through his tireless work as a legislator, Edward Kennedy would have brought comfort to her in her old age.
