I can think of no other reason why putatively professional perple would use the same word to includ young children and late teenagers.

You're throwing thimblesful of water at an angry ocean. These activists and worse yet, the hobby psychologists here on FR who routinely and egregiously misuse the term "pedophilia" simply identify themselves by what titillates them.
I call them closet pedophiles.

They will always pull things out of context to pave their well-defined one track interest.

From just a perspective of my philosophy, I think that such a decision should be left to the parents and the "child"....

For the "child" with only one parent, the outlook is so clearly more risk filled that I can only suggest that any such offspring of a single parent family be exceeding careful to wait until they are finished with their education and are financially independent. Unfortunately many are, de facto, finished with their education even before puberty.

Basically you are saying that you are against the age of consent laws and think that pre-adolescent children should be allowed to have sex with adults if their parents agree to it.
