Why did she save it? Maybe it was a big aggravation for her to do so. Maybe she only agreed to take on the aggravation -- that is to save the dog's life -- if she was given non-revokable ownership. What do you think? You think she went down to the animal shelter just to be put upon by somebody she obviously looks down at (see her claim that he lied about being a hurricane victim) and in search of an aggravation?
If she wasn't looking for a dog, what the hell was she doing at the shelter?
Growing up without pets, I have never owned a dog and only now have a cat because she came as a package deal with the wife, but I can say that I have come to understand why people love their pets so much. For one thing, I don't know anyone who's ever been cheated, slandered, or driven crazy by a pet. But on the other hand, two of my friends in their 50's committed suicide just last month because of horrible false accusations by their spouses (which are literally impossible to prove or disprove).
I think the obvious answer is to put the dog halfway between the two people and see which way it runs.
