ROCHESTER NY--Local attorney Sylvia Josh says she felt pressured by a Rochester judge to support the judge's political campaign.
She leveled the charge against Rochester City Court Judge Ellen Yacknin.
Josh claims Yacknin asked her to support her bid for the New York State Supreme Court. Josh said the incident happened outside Yachnin's courtroom, moments before Josh was to argue a case before Yacknin.
Josh signed a deposition in which she made the allegations against Yacknin.
State Republican chairman, Steve Minarik, wants the Democratic party to renounce Yacknin's candidacy for State Supreme Court Justice.
It is clearly an ethical violation. It is something frankly unheard of in judicial races in this neck of the woods, he said.
Evan Stavisky, a spokesperson for the Yacknin campaign said, the claims are a work [of] fiction. We believe voters will see through this as nothing more than a partisan political attack."
Monroe County Democratic Committee chair Joe Morelle said Yacknin categorically denied the claim.
"There is a proper way to air such grievances, and that's by filing an official complaint with the Commission on Judicial Conduct. To my knowledge, the only complaint filed so far is with Minarik," Morelle said.
Morelle called the accusation political gamesmanship and questioned Minarik's announcement of the charge on the same day as the Independence party's judicial convention.
Now how in the world can a democrat have an ethical violation?
When you belong to the party of no ethics, how can you have a violation of something you don't believe in. Kind of like aethiest who claim they are offended by God. How in the world can you be offended by One you don't even believe exist?
Aiethies and democrats,
