We always have to worry about the trees here during monsoon season. Oaks must put down some pretty deep roots, they withstand a lot of weather.

Oak trees typically have roots that go down as deep as the tree is high. Picture the oak tree turned upside down, that's how far down oak tree roots go down. Palm trees on the other hand, have shallow roots.

Once the ground gets saturated, hurricanes have a nasty habit of "popping" huge oak trees out of the ground, roots and all.

Last year a developer had a sub-division called "Twelve Oaks." In the span of 15 minutes it was Nine Oaks. This happened during Jeanne.
