Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

It would appear that it does cover more than just the press.

And yet., from before the time that we were a nation, up until the late 1950s, there were local and state and federal BLUE LAWS. I suggest that you look it up.
