FBI forms anti-porn squad 'I guess this means we've won the war on terror,' one agent says

Washington -- The FBI is joining the Bush administration's War on Porn. And it's looking for a few good agents.

Last month, the bureau's Washington Field Office began recruiting for a new anti-obscenity squad. Attached to the job posting was a memo from FBI headquarters to all 56 field offices, describing the initiative as "one of the top priorities" of Attorney General Alberto Gonzales and, by extension, of "the Director," Robert Mueller.

The new squad will divert eight agents, a supervisor and assorted support staff to gather evidence against "manufacturers and purveyors" of pornography -- not the kind exploiting children, but the kind that depicts, and is marketed to, consenting adults.

"I guess this means we've won the war on terror," said one exasperated FBI agent, speaking on condition of anonymity because poking fun at headquarters is not regarded as career-enhancing. "We must not need any more resources for espionage."

Among friends and trusted colleagues, an experienced national security analyst said, "it's a running joke for us."

A few of the printable samples:

"Things I Don't Want On My Resume, Volume Four."

"I already gave at home."

"Honestly, most of the guys would have to recuse themselves."

I said Bologna's. It's not a painting. It's a sculpture.

How about the painting, then? There is one. :-)

And neither the statue nor the painting is in any way salacious.

There are lots of paintings. The mythical rape of the Sabine women has been fodder for a number of artists.

And I don't see how anyone couldn't find the sculpture sexually suggestive. The look on the woman's face is quite clear; he is carrying her off to rape her.

But all right, even if you don't think that's suggestive, I'll throw out another example. Dali. There's PLENTY of sexual suggestion in his work. What about "young virgin autosodomized by her own chastity?" Not art?

Beats me. All I know is that the favorite tactic of pyschobitches is to scream "child molester", when a divorce is immenent.

Oh, I'm sorry, logical fallacies don't exist in real life?
My mistake. Carry on.

Anyways, my point is, which I'm sure is quite clear to you by this point, is that there just is no real way to differentiate between art and pornography in a lot of circumstances.

If Dali isn't art, why not?

Or what about Helmut Newton, an "artist" that I happen to really like? If it's a photograph, does that make it pornography and not art? Does that mean, then, that no photographs can be art, or just photographs of naked people aren't art?

Or was Helmut Newton an artist and not a pornographer? Why?

If it weren't as abstract and Daliesque, then yes, YVABHOC would be outright pornography. But why did you choose that particular work by Dali to discuss?

He actually did outright pornography; no excuses, no confused/suggestive signals, for his illustrated book "LES Metamorphoses Erotiques". "PIMP" and "TAP", from that book, would be difficult to just call "art", though his untitled drawings of "erotica" in 1966 are absolutely salacious and pornographic. These shown little actual skill and just about anyone, who can draw a little, could have done as well, or poorly, in drawing these pictures; which are almost cartoonish and I doubt that that was the intention .

You may quibble with my last sentence, as to how I would or would not know what the artist's intention was, but I studied with a Dali expert and from what I learned from him, that is my educated opinion.

And interrupt the critical work of picking lettuce?

Funny how they talk about lettuce and tomatoes, when the majority of illegals all crawling all over our major cities.

Ted Bundy! That's the bastard : (

People who don't "have a problem", simply don't understand.

You are correct. These are some seriously sick puppies, and they need to be locked away. The fact that normal, sane people don't understand what goes on in the minds of the insane is rather unavoidable.

A lot of what is called "art" is pure crap already. Toss in pornography to the mix, and basically now anything and everything can be called "art".

The word is currently meaningless. Most of what is called "modern art" is puerile spewing of one kind or another, requiring absolutely zilch in the way of actual skill, eye, or talent. And much of is it patently offensive or obscene. If a picture of the Madonna decorated with pictures of vaginas and actual elephant dung is called "art", or a photo of a crufix immersed in the "artists" urine is called art, if Mapplethorpe's photos of bullwhips jammed up men's anuses is called "art", then the word has lost all meaning.

BTW, it was the fedgov who forced porn on us all (except for the minority who use to "use" it) via Larry Flynt, the ACLU, and the Nazgul on the SCOTUS. If it was left up the states, many places would be practically porn free (except for the internet, but if state and local laws were able to be enacted, who knows how regulating that might have a different outcome). But the SCOTUS in its vilelness, has forced porn on us all, just as it's forced abortion on us all.

Time to take back the SCOTUS.

So public standards should be decided by Bear, is that it? And my viewpoint (and the viewpoint of the guys that actually wrote the Constitution) is crap? What does that mean?

It means that you think you're God. That your desire to "use" porn trumps all. Being on the side of Larry Flynt and the ACLU is not a good place to be.

Note my comments above. Haven't had time to weigh in until now, and have to back away from the keyboard in a minute.

Real life gets in the way of FR so much of the time....

The thing is, these discussions about pornography usually end up with no one coming to a consensus.

People who enjoy porno on a sporadic basis, are usually not addicted to it. They view it as a lark, or to spice up a routine sex life with their mate. Then we have the people who are obsessed with it. It starts out tame, and eventually progresses to harder stuff. Then they want to reenact what they see. There is the danger.
