No choice for the President (Mega Barf Alert)
NBC ^ | David Gregory

Posted on 09/23/2005 5:03:59 PM PDT by jmc1969

During his visit to FEMA emergency operations center here in Washington today, I asked the President what good he thinks he could do traveling to the hurricane zone later today in anticipation of Rita. He initially brushed off questions, but then spun around to say, "We will make sure that my entourage does not get in the way of people doing their job."

What a difference a botched hurricane makes!

The same President who appeared just a tad aloof taking in Katrina's wrath from Air Force One, or strumming a guitar after a speech as Katrina was striking, is now desperately seeking a new photo opportunity to symbolize his stewardship in response to Rita.

Then we received late word today that Mr. Bush has scrapped his trip to San Antonio where he was going to visit search and rescue teams staging for the storm. Those teams are moving east to follow the storm track and the White House says the President didn't want to slow that down. Mr. Bush will ride out the storm in Colorado at Northern Command to view the military response to Rita.

This hurricane gives him his first major test. An aide told me this morning — I'm paraphrasing: look, if you are going to say mistakes were made last time you are obliged to see for yourself what's being done in preparation now.

Bottom line is, these are photo ops. White House aides admit they want Mr. Bush to be seen in briefings and personally tending to the government's response. Mr. Bush has no choice but to be in the middle of the action. Disaster relief and rebuilding are now the canvas of his second term. Between storms and war, the President's vision may face less scrutiny than his administration's basic competence.

It seems as though the White House press correspondents are competing with each other to see who can be the most critical of the President.

Bush doesn't show up and they will cry that he doesn't care about them. Bush shows up and they attack him for trying to turn the hurricane into a photo opportunity.

Meanwhile, the queen of FoxNews is in a state of hysteria...

Agreed. The president was lied to by the incompetents in Louisiana and he recieved bad information. This time he wants to make sure he is getting good first hand information so that good decisions can be made. There is no comparison in the way the Texans are handling this matter and the goofballs in Louisiana.

"A botched hurricane"?????

FEMA was there after 3 days.

I posted this recently at:

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-bloggers/1484979/posts

With all of the Media caterwauling about FEMA's "slow" response to Hurricane Katrina (three days), I thought I'd put the media's bias in proper perspective.

Imagine turning to CNN an seeing the following:

NEWS ANCHOR: We now go live to Israel where our own Christine Ammonpour is standing by with a report. Christine?

AMMONPOUR: Yes, I'm standing just outside of Jerusalem at a place called Golgotha. I'm here with Jesus bar Joseph, a preacher from Nazareth who just this past Sunday rose from the dead. This was after a brutal murder just three days earlier. Mr. Jesus, how do you feel?

JESUS: Great.

AMMONPOUR: There are many scholars who say that your resurrection is a key factor in the Christian faith. In fact, most have said that without it, mankind would still be drowning in the flood of its own sin. Now, since there were so many lives hanging in the balance, why did it take you three days to respond to such an urgent need?

You can see where this would go.

Its so obvious that this bathhouse boy is jealous of real men who are action oriented, instead of whiners.

When this guy shot the question, "W" should have turned to him and said,

"I'll have Maj. Honore get back to you on that one"

"The president was lied to by the incompetents in Louisiana and he recieved bad information"

The ONLY incopetents in Louisina were called DEMOCRAT MAYORS and GOVERNORS. It had NOTHING to do with the federal government which has NO duties or reponsibilities in a state except when specifically invited to by the state.

The fed CAN fix the Interstate highway system if it wants without being asked.

We live in a Constitutional republic - not in a socialist version of paradise where nobody has to work and nothing is nev er your fault.

The NEA has done its job well in public schools when people who think themselves conservatives talk like hard-corps socialists

Gregory is not a WH reporter but a WH prosecutor (his connection to the Democrats is public knowledge). Can't the WH disregard protocol and not take his questions? He is an instigator and deserves to be ignored.

I just told myself what I think of David Gregory, not fit to put in print.
I would love to tell him to his face what I think of him, I am 70 and usually say what's on my mind.
He is so low he could easily get mixed with barn yard dirt.
And keep in mind, he has to say and act in a way that will get his name in the news, his network certainly can't help keep his name out there.

Gregory has never gotten over the press conference overseas some years back where he asked a question of Bush in French. Bush mocked him for it, implying he was an ahole for trying to imitate a Frenchman.
