The red cross's idiotic passing out these "no questions asked" debit cards is the height of foolishness and a gross waste of contributors money. They are being used to buy luxury goods like $200 shoes and handbags, and hordes of people are faking Katrina status and getting the cards. Now we got robbery and death...
Give them water, food and shelter, not wads of cash, the Salvation Army is a far better charity for contributions.

He probably bragged about his recent acquisition and somebody decided it was too good to pass up...his new friends? Why go to a nightclub to find friends, anyway? Making a new start? Sad!

A bunch of people fleeing the hurricane arrived in another state. Local law enforcement had a list of their names. A substantial number of these people were felons. Many had outstanding warrants. They were welcomed, then the persons with outstanding warrants were arrested.
I suspect this case is a drug deal that went bad. Having a large sum of money on hand just enhanced the value of robbing the victim.

Days before he was killed he had a debit card with several hundred dollars on it. Yet, day before he was killed, he's asking for additional financial assistance and replacement Red Cross and Social Security Cards. Then, hours before he's killed, he leaves a nightclub with 2 men and a woman. What is he doing in a nightclub when he was suppose to start a new job the next day? This fellow appeared to make a lot of bad decisions for himself.

Man, you got that right! The Red Cross doesn't get a dime of my money after the 911 fiasco.I travel to the Washington, DC area fairly often. I generally stay at the Comfort Inn in the Tyson's Corner area. The breakfast bar is usually loaded with Red Cross "volunteers". Most are dressed with fancy Red Cross vests and ID cards. I suspect the Red Cross is paying for these people to stay in the hotel and is hosting some mass gathering on a regular basis. That is no way to manage donations intended to help people in a disaster. The Red Cross is a social organization masquerading as a disaster relief agency.
