Gulf Coast tides are not 3-4 feet: that's more like the size you see on the Atlantic Coast near Norflok and the entrance to the Chesapeake. (12-18" up at the turning basin of the ship channel as I recall.)

Yeah, I looked up normal high tide for Sabine Pass tomorrow morning and it was 2.1 feet.
