Mayor of Houston is a Dem, although our elections are supposedly "non-partisan" - you don't run as a "Dem" or a "Repub" but everyone just knows who you belong to anyway.

I thought I read somewhere that he was a democrat...maybe there's hope.

Technically he is nonpartisan. That's how they run mayoral elections around here. But he is a Democrat. I voted for the other guy, Orlando Sanchez whom 41 endorsed, but Bill White has done a fine job especially when compared to his bumbling predecessor, Lee Brown.
