However, some don't own cars since the island is walkable and many have lived their whole lives in the island never crossing over to the mainland. Better the bus than staying or walking out.

A hurricane once upon a time hit NY. If another were to hit during a Republican-in-office term, the millions who would not be able to subway, fly, drive, track or bus it out of there would be all automatically deemed as "poor" the Prez doesn't care about even though...

(1)Many middle-class and wealthy folks in NY don't own cars;

(2)LBJizing poor folks with free cars isn't going to empower them;

(3) It's not up to the feds to pre-evacuate a city...that's what local and state guvs are for.

Don't hesitate to speak this truth into MSM ears, no matter how seemingly deaf they are to these concepts. If enough people utter them, they'll be forced to learn how to read our lips.

I can understand folks in NYC not having cars, but elsewhere, no way. We had a German exchange student who came with that same mindset of every American wastefully owned a car. He learned from a textbook that Texas was twice the size of Germany and had 1/5th the population, but hadn't grasped the whole concept until after being here for a few weeks. Public transportation simply wouldn't work here. Towns usually 35 miles apart. The drive into town to work, shop, or attend school 15-20 miles one way. Yep, gotta have my SUV.
