one day, republicans and conservatives will have their one slice of hollywood and then we can make a mockery of the left wing goons.
Bump for later
Even if I had access to the media, I doubt many people would care what I think.
There are a few conservative celebs out there, and probably more who don't dare admit it; I think it was Kevin Spacey who said, in effect, "...who cares what I think about politics? I'm an actor in movies!" In other words, he's keeping his mouth shut. Lib or not, I respected that.
That quote is not meant to be verbatim...
I was interested to read this to find out if I was going to loose respect for anyone whose work I enjoy. I was disappointed, I really couldn't give a crap about any of these morons.
Thanks for reminding me why I quit going to the movies several decades ago. The entertainers at the zoo are mentally and moraly superior to those in Smellywood.
Seems like I read somewhere: "America will self destruck from the inside out" or something like that...
Reading this makes me sick...I cannot believe there are people who say this stuff...and then I can't believe that there are people who will pay to go see these people in movies, concerts, etc....maybe if we all stayed away, and they didn't have so much money they might learn something????
I knew there was a reason why I don't go to movies, concerts, etc anymore....
"Back in the sixties when you were smoking all that pot and dropping all that acid with Donald Sutherland on the set of the steaming heap of leftist propaganda that was "MASH" your brain probably got so fried you thought anything, including the American flag, was funny. Your career, Mr. Altman, now that's the real joke."
November, 1968 I had just returned from Dong Ha,having put in my two years. One of the first things I wanted to do was to go to a movie with my wife. I was still in transition, I didn't have a clue. We were in York, PA...in a theater showing "Mash". As the credits scrolled, with a scene depicting wounded soldiers being brought in by choppers, and the sound track playing a song about suicide, there, in the darkness of the theater I broke into a cold sweat.
Minutes later, one of the character's made a joke about a trooper's groin being destroyed by a granade. I looked to my left in disbelief and watched a rather fat teenage boy with a gallon of popcorn in his lap... laughing.
Later when I told my older brother about how upset this experience had made me, he scolded me, "For crying out loud Peter, the movie was about Korea not Viet Nam ! "
For the next ten or 15 years, I refused to talk about Viet Nam to anyone. What was the point?
This should read:
"I think America has no experience with terrorism or even with LOSING warS. In Europe, we know a little bit more about these things."
Actually, I don't want my entertainment from them either, once I know their venal political views. It is the power and income from entertaining that gives them an outsized voice in America above the "little people". And I refuse to give them any more power or income.
I maintain my own private blacklist, if you will, of entertainers, sports figures and others who will never see another of my hard-earned dollars. The only exception is when there is another entertainer I want to support in the same production. Then I will swallow hard and support it.
Fact is, I never cared to know the personal lives or views of celebrities. I don't read the gossip rags, I don't watch the entertainment talkshows. I really don't care. So I don't know about a lot of celebrities. But when a celebrity chooses to put their views in my face, or get themselves arrested for immoral behavior, then I will make a judgment as to whether that celebrity deserves my support.
I am not so desperate for entertainment that I will overlook evil because he or she is a good singer or batter or actor or director. I don't expect anyone to be a saint but I resent those who force their lifestyles and views on us just to stay in the public eye. The old days when celebrities knew to be discrete about their private lives and views had something to commend itself.
Excellent post!! I have trouble figuring out who's smarter, Hollywoodnistas or pocket lint.
:-)
BTTT
This is so so true .
I remember the quotes from David Clennon. And if I remember correctly, when word spread about Mr. Clennon's Bush-bashing rant the ratings for "The Agency" went right into the toilet. I believe the season ended with a cliffhanger that was never resolved because the series never came back.
Bump for posterity ... another brilliant post, Doug .. Thanks :)
I think these yahoos are looking in the mirror.
BOYCOTT HOLLYWOOD, TOTALLY, AND NOW
Want to have a true perspective of Hollywierd? Red Star Over Hollywood. I highly recommend it.
Hollywierd has been red since the Red Revolution and never changed, even in WWII. They were patriotic in WWII only because Mother Russia was attacked.
