I don't know that there's HATE in your comments specifically, but there certainly is on this thread.
I think the coasties in this story are being unfairly painted and I'm rising to their defense. That's all.
I too have spent a lot of time in the gulf of Alaska, the Bering and above the arctic circle. I've been to Dutch, and St Paul, and Adak and lots of other places. I know what an eighty foot wave looks like up close and personal. :-)

Yes I agree that some folks just hate authority of any kind.
I am guilty of dismissing these folk's plaintive cries and whimpering out of hand. It's a bad habit to just ignore them, but I'm just a man, and they get me kinda angry if I listen to them.
It IS a shock to the lubber brain to ask them to understand that the instant you set foot upon the deck, the world is a different place, and that the rules, and laws, and customs of the sea, are NOT those of the land.
