M y daughter said her hubby called for her to come to town, load up on bottled water and canned food - prepare for a LOT of rain and possible (probable) flooding.

From the 5PM NHC Advisory...

RAINFALL ACCUMULATIONS OF 8 TO 12 INCHES WITH ISOLATED MAXIMUM 15 INCH TOTALS ARE POSSIBLE ALONG THE PATH OF RITA OVER SOUTHEAST TEXAS AND SOUTHWESTERN LOUISIANA AS IT MOVES INLAND. BASED ON THE FORECAST TRACK...TOTALS ACCUMULATIONS IN EXCESS OF 25 INCHES ARE POSSIBLE OVER THE NEXT SEVERAL DAYS AS THE SYSTEM SLOWS DOWN.

That's an incomprehensible amount of rain to a lot of folks. People inland who never even remotely considered that they live on a floodplain and have never seen water in sight of their houses are going to be flooded out.
